Hong Kong shines at IMEX America

IMEX America is one of the world’s most established MICE events, attracting thousands of buyers and exhibitors from around the globe, and setting the pace for doing business on an international scale and is marked as the largest meeting industry trade show in the North America. In October 2014, the Meetings and Exhibitions Hong Kong co-exhibited with 10 Hong Kong trade partners to showcase the city at this important event and conducted 200 hosted buyer appointments over a three day period.

At IMEX America, Hong Kong cooperated with regional partners Macau and Guangdong to deliver a Pearl River Delta promotion. The promotion highlighted the unique attributes and benefits of the multiple destinations of the southern China region. The region’s captivating cultural experiences and our reputation as Asia’s business hub were proudly on display for the world’s top MICE minds to experience.

WATCHES&WONDERS 2014 brings glamorous watch brands to Hong Kong

Held at the HKCEC from 29 September to 2 October 2014, the prestigious WATCHES&WONDERS 2014 event attracted more than 16,000 visitors and demonstrated Hong Kong’s continuing position as Asia’s premier MICE destination. Business leaders from the world’s most glamorous watchmaking maisons, hundreds of journalists, and many fine watchmaking enthusiasts joined to make the event an enormous success.

WATCHES&WONDERS 2014 was crafted as a tribute to Asia’s fine watchmaking collectors and some of the world’s most sophisticated consumers, with a focus on the most exquisite works in the realm of horology. Hong Kong was chosen for its proven track record as Asia’s number one business-savvy city, conveniently located in the heart of Asia for effortless access.

‘The event was open to the public for less time this year, but we still had nearly the same number of visitors,’ said Fabienne Lupo, chairwoman and managing director of the Geneva-based Fine Watchmaking Foundation. ‘We are truly grateful for our warm reception and welcome here and we’ll be back in September 2015.’

Cosmoprof Asia reflects Hong Kong’s beauty

The 19th edition of Cosmoprof Asia was held at the HKCEC from 12 to 14 November 2014. Cosmoprof Asia is the most prestigious and trendsetting business-to-business beauty event in Asia, offering unrivalled business opportunities for those in the beauty and health industry.

This year, the event attracted 2,362 exhibitors from 42 countries and regions, who showcased their businesses and enjoyed Hong Kong’s famous hospitality. Almost two-thirds of the delegation was from overseas, and 93 non-Asian countries were represented, bringing close to 40,000 international travellers to the city. Cosmoprof will be back in Hong Kong for their 20th edition in 2015. Organisers and attendees agree that Hong Kong serves as the ideal gateway to Asia for buyers across the globe.

Hong Kong’s cool new creative venue

The former, historic Police Marine Quarters (PMQ) on Hollywood Road in Central has been transformed into a modern, creative and culinary arts hub that’s fast becoming a hot event venue for the city’s chicest MICE events. The new special purpose, non-profit social enterprise offers a portfolio of unique event spaces for major installations and large events, through to purpose-built areas for short-term pop-up retailing initiatives and exhibitions.

The venue boasts 1,600 sqm of event space right in the heart of Central’s social district of SoHo, a short walking distance to the city’s famed escalator. On site at the complex are six of Hong Kong’s newest and most talked about F&B outlets, ready to cater for your next event.

MEHK hosts the IAPCO study mission

In early December 2014, MEHK was delighted to host 12 Professional Congress Organisers (PCOs) from the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO). IAPCO members organise in excess of 6,750 events annually, making the organisation a powerful ally for the city. The MEHK-hosted IAPCO study mission led PCOs through a guided tour of Hong Kong’s highlights, showcasing the city’s prime offerings and developments as Asia’s premier location for MICE events. Those participating in the study mission stayed at Harbour Grand Hotel in Kowloon and joined a series of guided hotel visits.

Delegates in the group travelled from Germany, Ireland, India, Singapore and Turkey. Each member is responsible for sourcing and recommending international, world-class destinations for the multiple events they lead. The group enjoyed Hong Kong’s delicious cuisine, marvelled at the city’s efficient infrastructure, and was spoilt by our highly skilled and passionate service industry. The group also experienced the city’s greatest tourist spots, including a visit to The Peak with lunch at Café Deco, a Helicopter Tour of Hong Kong, a night of horse racing at Happy Valley’s Hong Kong Jockey Club, a visit to the majestic mountains of Lantau Island, the jaw-dropping views from sky100, and venue inspections of the HKCEC and Asia World Expo.

Indonesia’s top business media visit Hong Kong

Five of Indonesia’s top business media publications were proudly hosted by MEHK in November. Journalists from Kompas, Jawa Pos, Tempo Magazine, Bisnis Indonesia and VENUE magazine came to view the city’s wealth of MICE products and facilities.

The group came to understand how Hong Kong is built for business, inspecting a selection of top venues including AsiaWorld-Expo, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. However, this MEHK-hosted Indonesia MICE trip wasn’t all work and no play; each delegate was invited to experience Hong Kong’s enticing attractions first hand, with the Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show noted as a highlight of their trip.
