MEHK extends its strategic partnership with the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers

MEHK has proudly celebrated the signing of a three-year agreement with the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO), continuing our existing strategic partnership with this global leader in the meetings industry.

This significant corporate partnership is now formalised until May 2017, allowing MEHK to keep PCO members updated on the latest offerings and developments from Hong Kong – the world’s meeting place.

Kenneth Wong, the general manager of the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s MICE & Cruise division, said, “Our continued partnership with IAPCO is more important than ever, as we anticipate the increase in MICE visitor arrivals from long-haul markets. This increase is likely to be generated by anticipated growth of advanced European economies, and their growing interest in Asia. Partnering with IAPCO is mutually beneficial, as it allows both parties to keep IAPCO members updated on the latest offerings and developments from Asia’s world city.”

With the help of this partnership, we look forward to maintaining our position as Asia’s number one location for successful and rewarding meetings and conventions.

The world’s top intellectual property experts make their mark on Hong Kong

The International Trade Mark Association (INTA) held their 136th annual meeting in Hong Kong in May, marking the first time INTA has come to Asia. Citing our city’s sound legal system and reputable academic standing, INTA selected Hong Kong as their destination of choice for this international event that brought over 8,500 of the world’s most acclaimed intellectual property minds to our enterprising city. Delegates from over 140 countries joined the productive discussions that took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The international delegation was impressed by Hong Kong’s cultural and intellectual depth. The Hong Kong Tourism Board tempted guests at the welcome reception with their deliciously themed booth A Taste of Hong Kong, showcasing the city as the culinary capital of Asia. Delegates received a personal welcome by Hong Kong’s financial secretary, John C. Tsang, who acted as the officiating guest of the opening ceremony. Finally, INTA saved the fun for last with a grand finale group charter to Hong Kong Disneyland.

Tradition and modernity converge in Hong Kong to welcome a new era of emergency medicine

Any discussion about old-meets-new, or East meets West, is no more at home than in Hong Kong, where traditional practices thrive alongside modern life. Hong Kong’s traditional role as a bridge between East and West was recently recognised by The International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM), who confidently favoured Hong Kong’s comprehensive bid for their international medical event over fellow bidders South Korea and Spain.

The International Conference on Emergency Medicine was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in June, bringing 2,300 medical experts from all over the world to discuss the theme New Era of Emergency Medicine: Old World New Practice, with many Chinese delegates in attendance for the first time. The conference explored how traditional and modern methods of emergency treatment can be united to form ground-breaking approaches that will, in turn, strengthen practices and maximise patient benefits. Hong Kong’s progressive yet traditional nature deemed it the most opportune setting for this life-saving discussion.

MEHK facilitated a series of captivating cultural experiences for guests as the event unfolded across four days, including traditional lion dances, a Chinese quartet, an LED dragon dance, a dynamic drum show, and an impressive local live band.

AsiaWorld-Expo’s countless benefits bring NU SKIN back to Hong Kong

Around 30,000 NU SKIN business partners converged in Hong Kong in June, marking 30 years of success with a series of inspiring plenary sessions and seminars. Hong Kong’s renowned venue, AsiaWorld-Expo, received rave reviews from international delegates for its unparalleled customer service, ‘can do’ attitude, and travel trade expertise while hosting the record-breaking event.

This is the sixth time NU SKIN has chosen to host their yearly mega-event in Hong Kong. Growing in size from 10,000 attendees in 2010 to 20,000 delegates in 2012, and now 30,000 in 2014, the NU SKIN Greater China Regional Convention is making history with its enormous scope and logistical requirements.

The NU SKIN team was confident when choosing Hong Kong as their venue for the sixth time due to its unrivalled location on the doorstep of China, sophistication and the adaptability of the AsiaWord-Expo venue. The team knew they could rely on Hong Kong’s world-class customer service professionals to execute a smooth event and ensure their guests were welcomed to the city. With Hong Kong’s endless entertainment experiences, NU SKIN could once again delight and surprise their guests with new activities the team could enjoy in 2014.

Share a piece of Hong Kong history with your event guests

It’s widely known that Hong Kong has a ‘venue for every event’, and that is just one reason why it’s Asia’s most prestigious destination for business events. But if you’re looking for a truly unique event space, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum provides an individual edge.

The popular museum has recently moved to a new location at Central ferry pier 8, facing Hong Kong’s stunning harbour. It houses more than 5,000 artefacts that capture and celebrate Hong Kong’s rich history as a maritime port. The museum promotes Hong Kong’s nautical heritage, from past to present, while exploring future possibilities.

In partnership with the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, get ready to dive into event planning for cocktail receptions, training workshops, seminars, product launches, dinners, exhibitions, and press conferences. Event spaces can span the entire museum or encompass a small private section. It’s an unequivocally original way to share a piece of Hong Kong’s history with your event guests.

MEHK and The Hong Kong Tourism Board strengthen ties at IMEX Frankfurt

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) teamed up with 14 of the city’s industry trade partners to exhibit at IMEX Frankfurt on 19-22 May – an annual worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings, and events professionals in Germany.

The HKTB attended this influential industry event with a two objectives: to promote Hong Kong as an established world-class destination to host MICE events, and to create awareness about MEHK’s services among MICE planners. Supporting this message, the team also shared news about MEHK’s strategic partnership with the Pearl River Delta Alliance.

As one of the most established MICE industry events worldwide, the IMEX trade show attracted 3,500 exhibitors, 242 media outlets, 3,964 professional buyers, and 4,919 visitors. Over the three-day event, the MEHK team were able to personally deliver their important messages to over 200 buyers via one-on-one meetings.

MEHK treated key clients and new contacts to a delightful on-stand cocktail reception, and exclusive dinner, to wrap up the event and enjoy some social time relaxing together. This entertaining evening further strengthened MEHK’s relationship with Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs), association executives and meeting planners.

MEHK, Cathay Pacific, and Lotte AMEX team up to showcase Hong Kong’s hospitality

There are so many reasons why Hong Kong is considered Asia’s primary destination for MICE events, large or small; and MEHK believes the most convincing way to showcase the city’s unparalleled benefits to event planners is through a personal visit.

Recently, MEHK partnered with Cathay Pacific and Lotte AMEX to craft a four-day tour of Hong Kong, sharing its latest MICE products and services to seven corporate delegates from South Korea. This dynamic four days demonstrated the city’s colourful attractions, world-class infrastructure, and famous ‘can do’ professional attitude to the delegates, inspiring them to organise key events here in the future.

The successful tour revealed the city’s sophistication and friendly nature, including visits to The Peak, Cathay City, Ngong Ping, sky100 Observation Deck, and the Hong Kong Museum of History, as well as spending a night on Star Cruises’ SuperStar Virgo.
