Muslims represent a significant high potential consumer segment. By 2030, the Muslim population is projected to constitute 27% of the global population, growing at a faster rate than the global average. With its strategic geographical advantage, Hong Kong has access to over 30% of the world's Muslim population within a 3- to 6-hour flight. Combined with its diverse tourism offerings, Hong Kong is well positioned to develop the Muslim market.
To capitalise on these opportunities, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will collaborate with a specialised organisation to provide training to the hospitality industry on the specific requirements of Muslim tourists regarding dining, retail, accommodation, MICE venues, and attractions. The HKTB will also assist relevant companies in obtaining a Muslim-friendliness rating. Additionally, we will actively encourage more restaurants to join hand with us and subsequently obtain the Halal Certificate from The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong (BOT), thereby increasing dining options for Muslim visitors in the city. These initiatives aim to enhance Hong Kong's reputation as a Muslim-friendly destination and attract businesses.
Before implementing the training and the Muslim-friendliness rating program, the HKTB seeks feedback from the industry regarding awareness of the needs of Muslim visitors and interest in tapping into this target market. You are cordially invited to participate in the survey, which will be open until 30 April, 2024. Further details on the training sessions and rating program will be announced in due course.
