Welcome the Year of the Rabbit! Enjoy Fabulous Chinese New Year Celebrations in Hong Kong!

The Chinese New Year celebrations run from 28 January to 13 February 2011, allowing visitors to discover all the wonderful events and attractions synonymous with Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade, 3 February
The 16th Chinese New Year Night Parade organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will be staged in Tsim Sha Tsui on the first evening of Chinese New Year (3 February). Carrying the theme "World City. World Party.", the parade features 36 floats and performing groups from 11 countries and regions to underscore Hong Kong's status as an international metropolis. Adding to these are captivating performances and entertainment along the parade route, culminating in a mega party for local residents and visitors alike to celebrate the first day of Chinese New Year.

For tour groups that have already purchased tickets for the parade, please be advised that every visitor has to show the ticket when entering the entrance. Guests without a reserved seating can also join with local residents and spectate the event along the parade route without charges.

Chinese New Year Floats on Display & Stage Performance, 4-17 February
To sustain the excitement after the Parade, the floats will be put on display between 4 and 17 February in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po, as part of the Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival by Mega Events Fund. The HKTB will also arrange various international performing troupes to put on their acts at the festival on 4-5 February, so that local residents and visitors can watch the amazing performances in proximity.

Chinese New Year Big Bowl Feast (for visitors only) is sure to be one of the highlights during the Chinese New Year celebrations in Hong Kong. Big Bowl Feast (poon tsoi in Cantonese) is the traditional menu served during festive moment in the New Territories. The HKTB will arrange a Big Bowl Feast banquet at the Lam Tsuen Wishing Square on 4 February (Friday, Second Day of the Lunar New Year). To facilitate visitors to experience this authentic custom of Chinese New Year, you are cordially encouraged to include this event in the tour itineraries for bona-fide visitors.  Please find event details and reservation form as follows.

Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival, 11-17 February
This event features a host of cultural activities, will be held at Lam Tsuen, home of the famous "Wishing Trees" in Tai Po, New Territories. It is a popular spot frequented by locals who make a pilgrimage to worship, hoping their wishes come true by tying wish-making papers onto the wooden racks beside the "Wishing Trees". Visitors are recommended to participate in Campfire Party in Liannan's Yao Minority Style (連南瑤族篝火晚會); Well-wishing Festival International "Wishing-placards-throwing" Competition (《許願節》國際拋寶牒大賽) and Wishing Lanterns Lighting Ceremony (許願燈祈福) to experience all the joys and excitement of the festival.
