HKTB Sets Off for South Korea to Promote Calendar of Spectacular Hong Kong Mega Events

South Korea has long been a key visitor source market of Hong Kong. On 26 September, The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) hosted an exclusive lunch in Seoul, South Korea, where VIP guests promoted a dazzling array of upcoming mega eventsin Hong Kong. The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law, Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Vivian Sum and the Hong Kong Tourism Board Executive Director Anthony Lau attended the event in South Korea. Capitalising on Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul, this Hong Kong Mega Events Showcase Luncheon unveiled a calendar of exciting mega events planned for the second half of 2025 to over 100 media representatives, travel and airline trade partners, and social media influencers. Highlights of the autumn and winter programme include flagship HKTB events such as the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon, the Hong Kong WinterFest, and the much-anticipated return of the global K-pop extravaganza MAMA AWARDS. The HKTB aims to strengthen the appeal of Hong Kong’s “Events + Tourism” experience through the mega events while deepening cultural and tourism exchanges with South Korea, generating a wealth of business opportunities for both destinations.

 

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said, “South Korea has long been a vital source market for Hong Kong tourism. Last year, Hong Kong welcomed around 850,000 visitors from South Korea – an encouraging year-on-year increase of 109%. To further attract South Korean visitors, we will continue to offer tourism experiences that blend arts and culture, along with a yearround calendar of world-class events. We sincerely thank our South Korean industry partners for their strong support. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to unlock new business opportunities, attract more South Korean visitors to Hong Kong and encourage repeated travel.”

 

 

VIP guests praise Hong Kong’s allure as an events capital

 

HKTB Executive Director Anthony Lau and representatives from the HKTB’s South Korea office invited distinguished guests to share their insights on Hong Kong’s appeal as a destination for entertainment, gastronomy, and mega events. CJ ENM Head of Live Entertainment Business Chanuk Park, said, “We are thrilled to bring MAMA AWARDS back to Hong Kong since 2018 and to hold it for the first time at the new Kai Tak Stadium. As a vibrant international hub for cultural exchange, Hong Kong offers a unique platform for world-class artists and collaborations.”

 

Chef Eun-yeong Park, star of the hit South Korea TV cookery show Culinary Class Wars, described how she was inspired by Hong Kong’s culinary scene when she lived and worked in the city. “Hong Kong’s food culture blends tradition and modernity, offering endless inspiration for me as a chef,” she explained.

 

 

Visitors from South Korea will have even more reason to visit Hong Kong as the end of the year approaches and festive events are staged across the city. The HKTB will continue to ramp up promotions in South Korea and other key source markets to showcase Hong Kong’s exceptional appeal as an events capital.
