Summer ended on a high note as MEHK successfully welcomed the 2012 FDI Annual World Dental Congress on 29 August to 1 September which opened with the Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government hosting a celebratory dinner reception on 29 August at prestigious Government House. Moving into autumn, the city is bustling with excitement as it brings in mega events for MICE visitors including the inaugural Art Fair in early October, colourful Mid-Autumn Festival, ghoulish Halloween and the glamorous Wine and Dine Festival. Celebrating a century of dental health |
For the second time since 1995, the Hong Kong Dental Association (HKDA) proudly hosted the 100th FDI Annual World Dental Congress 2012 (FDI 2012) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. From 29 August to 1 September, FDI 2012 drew thousands of participants which journeyed from overseas to celebrate “Leading the World to Optimal Oral Health” theme. In celebrating the centennial congress, the Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government had hosted a dinner reception at the Government House on 29 August 2012 to offer the highest level of Government’s hospitality to national and international dignitaries of the dental profession worldwide. The congress included elements such as the Scientific Programme, World Dental Exhibition and World Dental Parliament. |

East meets West in Vitafood Asia |
Vitafoods Asia, the leading event in Asia for the nutraceutical, functional foods and functional drinks industry returned to Hong Kong in 5-7 September with great success. The regional event held at AsiaWorld-Expo introduced new products, services and innovations, and encouraged participants to find new partners and distributors from over 160 global companies. The event featured a finished products zone, free seminars, keynote speeches from world authorities and free face-to-face advisory sessions on regulations. Product launches and networking events celebrated Hong Kong’s innovation of eastern and western food science and technology. |

Staying vigilant |
The 5th International Conference of Infection Control was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 24 – 26 August and attended by over 900 delegates from 19 countries. The theme this year “Timely Infection Control – Problems and Solutions”, was presented by renowned local and overseas speakers. Held every two years since 2004, the organizer Hong Kong Infection Control Nurses’ Association reiterated their mission during the conference: Promulgating infection control best practice in health care organization and the community. The conference successfully enhanced the knowledge, skill set and expertise in training and development of infection control; while also promoting the welfare and protects the interests of nurses engaged in infection control. |

Fresh trade of fruit |
The 6th Asia Fruit Logistica hits new heights with a record 5,722 visitors from 64 different nations which marked a 7 percent increase over last year’s attendance. From 5-7 September at AsiaWorld-Expo, the event was the must attend event for Asia’s rapidly growing fresh fruit and vegetable business. The event set records on a number of other fronts, including exhibitor numbers, which climbed to 341 exhibitors representing 30 different countries. Asia Fruit Logistica took place in conjunction with Asia Fruit Congress, Asia’s premier fresh fruit and vegetable conference event. |

Cooking up ideas |
The Food and Wine Academy is an initiative between the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hotel ICON, created to promote learning through educational and practical workshops. Corporate groups are encouraged to explore basic to advanced levels of food and wine in world class “Wine Tasting Vinoteca Lab” and “Western Food Lab” set out in themes, from global food and wine pairing to local tea tasting. The state-of-the-art facilities design incorporates a fully equipped service bar, standard wine cooler, cooking demonstration hob, TV & audio display within all-in-one Vinoteca Lab. With a connecting restaurant, Bistro1979, full day and half day programs can be arranged in the heart of the city. |

Building MICE potential for India and China markets |
On 26-29 July, 19 meeting and incentive travel agents from Mumbai and New Delhi were invited to Hong Kong by MEHK. Networking cocktail was arranged on 27 July with 41 Hong Kong trade representatives gaining new contacts for development of MICE business in the Indian market. And between 6 – 10 September, a 5-day Contract Hong Kong session was organized for 31 meeting and incentive travel agents from Beijing and Shanghai. The itinerary was arranged to include a celebratory lunch and networking session on 7 September with 55 Hong Kong trade partners. The Indian and Chinese agents also experienced the diverse MICE products and attractions in Hong Kong. |

Connecting at the inaugural IT & CM India |
IT & CM India is the inaugural trade show organized by TTG Asia from 21- 23 August providing a new platform to meet with about 160 India and international MICE buyers. MEHK participated the show with 11 trade partners in Hong Kong Pavilion. To further promote Hong Kong MICE offerings at the show, MEHK hosted “Hong Kong – Asia’s world city” luncheon on 22 August to 221 hosted buyers and media. MEHK organized two spin-off events, namely business session and trade dinner in Delhi providing a dedicated platform for Hong Kong co-exhibitors to meet with key Indian agents. |

A global perspective, 2012 ASAE Annual Meeting & Expo |
More than 6,000 membership organization and association professionals and industry partners gathered in Dallas for the 2012 ASAE Annual Meeting & Expo from 11-14 August. As the meeting and expo for leading trade associations, individual membership societies and voluntary organizations in nearly 50 countries around the world, ASAE valued MEHK as a key partner from Asia to participate. MEHK exhibited at the show and invited Ms Sabrina Chan, Executive Director of The Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry as speaker at the “Global Perspectives – Asia Pacific” learning session on 12 August. On the same night, a dinner for the Associations Forum delegates from Australia was thrown to celebrate ASAE from a global perspective. |

Networking in Paris, Global Event Summit 2012 |
On 4-6 September, MEHK joined force with Hong Kong partners AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) to promote Hong Kong as the "Trade Fair capital of Asia" at the Global Event Summit 2012. Representative of the Hong Kong family, Marc Allard from HKTDC presented the excellent track record of Hong Kong and our commitment to serve the industry. The Summit provided top level content, company strategy session and even more networking opportunities to global organizers and venue CEO’s personnel. A new addition of the summit there was also the “1-2-1 Networking Sessions” between delegates from around the world – an opportunity to create global networks with companies from across the events industry. |

Lanterns Wonderland |
Every year, Hong Kong welcomes one of the world’s most colourful celebrations – Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Festival. This ancient Chinese harvest festival is a highlight for visitors of all ages in Asia’s world city, where glowing lanterns merge with the city’s trademark neonlights. The festive feeling on the streets also welcomes fiery dragons dancing through the busy streets while Victoria Park will welcome the Lee Kum Kee Lantern Wonderland, which will feature an award-winning lantern structure including a Mid-Autumn market, a lantern corridor, lantern displays and other traditional performances. Traditional festive food includes the moon cake originating from 14th century revolutionaries were said to have used the pastries to pass secret messages with each other. |

The city is ready for a howling night as Halloween comes to town where ghosts, ghouls and demons can be found in places like Lan Kwan Fong, Avenue of Stars and Discovery Bay. At haunted Halloween at Hong Kong Disneyland, power has been divided between two immortal supernatural species - the vampires and the werewolves. Ocean Park's Halloween Bash beckons MICE delegates to enter eight haunted houses, including the Terrors of the Tomb, state-of-the-art 5D journey to the underworld and 14 fashionable freaky shows. Wine and Dine Festival |
From 1-4 November, Hong Kong will host the Wine and Dine Festival at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade in Tsim Sha Tsui. The Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival landed on the ForbesTraveler.com’s top 10 list of international food and wine festivals in 2009. The festival features hundreds of booths serving a diverse menu of dishes as well as wines from 20 countries and regions. The Grand Tasting Pavilion will continue to be the focal point for premium wines, while new elements include an area devoted to the pairing of pastries with champagne, ice wines, sweet wines and other desserts. Themed nights will be extended, along with wine classes and award-winning signature dishes from Hong Kong’s top hotels and restaurants. |

FASHION ACCESS, 27-29 September |
FASHION ACCESS is held at the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre until 29 September. It is the leading international fashion fair in Hong Kong for bags, footwear, small leather goods, travelware and fashion accessories, with exhibitors coming from more than 30 countries. Regarded as the most important sourcing platform for bags, 46% of exhibits covered by top-level bag OEMs and ODMs that offer fashion companies from all over the world the opportunity to set up manufacturing bases in China and Asia-Pacific. Footwear is a steadily growing sector and now takes up 32% of the fair. Insights on different markets and trends are shared in four seminars with keynote speakers. |

Asia Contemporary Art Show, 4-7 October |
The Asia Contemporary Art Show brings a fabulous selection of works from young, emerging and mid-career artists to Hong Kong on 4- 7 October at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. Visitors can browse and buy original paintings, limited editions, sculpture and photography displayed in a unique "in room" setting.
