Journey Back in Time: The Yau Ma Tei Theatre |
A government revitalization programme has given the Yau Ma Tei Theatre a new lease on life. It is the only surviving pre-war cinema premise built in 1930 and a Grade 2 historic building in Kowloon. And now, it has been converted into a performing arts venue to promote Chinese opera activities, in particular Cantonese opera. Located next to the theatre is the Red Brick Building, the former pumping station which is a Grade 1 historic building with small function rooms. The theatre has a 300-seat theatre while the two function rooms can seat 12-20 people.
