Détails: | As the Hong Kong Sevens 2024 will be staged in Hong Kong Stadium for three days from 5 to 7 April 2024, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is inviting the city to dive into the rugby raves! The HKTB will set up an outdoor fan zone at the Central Harboufront with a live broadcast of the games jointly with the organiser, Hong Kong China Rugby Union (HKCR), extending the excitement in the stadium to the city. Rugby fanatics James and Oliver Phelps, who are also known as the Weasley Twins in the Harry Potter movie series, are joining the audience in Hong Kong to experience the unique rugby vibes in Hong Kong.
40% of tickets snapped by visitors 30 teams gather in Hong Kong for adrenaline-pumping face-offs
Welcoming the 30th anniversary of the event at the Hong Kong stadium this year, the Sevens is staging its last games in Causeway Bay. Tickets to the games have been sold out before the kick-off, first time since the outbreak of the pandemic. The event receives great support from international visitors, especially fans from the UK, Australia and Fiji. The organiser disclosed that ticket purchases by visitors account for more than 40% of all tickets sold. It is expected that more than 120,000 will visit the Hong Kong Stadium this weekend to enjoy the adrenaline-pumping face-offs by 30 teams from Argentina, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and more.
The HKTB has extended invitations to rugby fans and Harry Potter stars James and Oliver Phelps to come to Hong Kong for the games. As the host, HKTB yesterday (Thursday) invited the captain of the Hong Kong team Max Woodward and female rugby player Chloe Chan to take the twins on a day tour in Hong Kong, exploring the city’s attractions and gourmet.
The group took the Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui and visited local noodle stalls for delicious fishball noodles and wantons. They then took the Peak Tram to the Peak and admired the stunning skyline at Victoria Harbour, taking photos at the Sky Terrace 428, the highest viewing deck in town. The twins also hopped on the trams to explore the Hong Kong Island and went on a citywalk, immersing themselves in the local culture in Old Town Central as they stopped by Lascar Road and the Man Mo Temple. The twins will later share their trip in Hong Kong on their social media platforms. HKTB hopes to promote to the world Hong Kong’s unique charm by having celebrities visit the city in person.
The twins will join fellow spectators in the south stand on the second day (Saturday) of the games to experience the carnivalistic charm at Hong Kong Stadium and Hong Kong’s unique appeal as a mega events hub in person, dressing up for photo shoots with fellow spectators to do as the Romans do.
City-wide decors to awaken the craze
The HKTB is also partnering with Cathay and MTR Corporation to incorporate elements of the event into various locations in town, including MTR stations and bus stops, to create a city-wide rugby ambience. This year, Cathay has designed a series of HK7s badges with elements of Hong Kong’s local culture. Find the badges in different MTR stations!
