The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced that Hong Kong recorded 5.15 million visitor arrivals provisionally in August, equivalent to a 16% year-on-year increase. It is the highest monthly record since travel resumed after the pandemic. Cumulatively, Hong Kong received about 33 million visitors from January to August this year, a 12% increase from the same period last year.
Among the visitors, 25.53 million were from the Mainland and 7.65 million came from other markets, showing double-digit year-on-year percentage growth of 11% and 16% respectively. In the first eight months of the year, number of visitors from short-haul markets increased by 18% from the same period last year, with better turnouts from Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. Number of visitors from long-haul markets increased by 19% year on year, with Australia showing the most significant growth.
