Following the announcement of the Policy Address, which includes initiatives to encourage the trade to launch more Muslim-friendly tourism facilities and food and beverage services, the Hong
Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is launching the “Hong Kong Restaurants Halal Certification Funding Scheme”. Restaurants successfully receiving for a recognised Halal certification between
17 September 2025 and 31 December 2026 are entitled to a 50% application fee subsidy, capped at HK$5,000.

The application is open from today to 31 January 2027. During the period, each restaurant is entitled to the subsidy once only. Trade members can visit the dedicated webpage of the Scheme (https://partnernet.hktb.com/en/trade_support/funding_schemes/hong_kong_restaurants_halal_certif ication_funding_scheme/index.html). Application guidelines and an application form are available on the webpage. Alternatively, applicants may call 2807 6593 or email halal@hktb.com for details.

HKTB has adopted the three-pronged strategy of “accreditation, education and promotion” to optimise tourism facilities jointly with the travel trade and enhance Hong Kong’s position as a Muslim-friendly destination. The number of halal-certified restaurants in town has increased from about 100 in early 2024 to 195 now. HKTB hopes that the new subsidy scheme will encourage more
members of the F&B industry to obtain halal-certification, so as to offer Muslim visitors a richer and more diverse culinary options and experience.
