HKTB “Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade” Welcomes the Year of the Snake with Dazzling Performances and Spectacular Floats

The highly anticipated Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) lit up Tsim Sha Tsui tonight (29 January) with an exuberant celebration to mark the first day of the Chinese New Year. The parade featured nine spectacular floats and 46 performing groups from across the globe, including stars from overseas talent shows and awardwinning troupes from international competitions. The spellbinding performances delighted crowds of spectators and brought locals and visitors together to usher in the Year of the Snake in dramatic, joyful style.

 

Global Performing Groups Showcase Talents to Captivate Locals and Visitors


The theme of the parade was Unfold a Year of Good Fortune. Nine magnificent floats made their way along the route with thrilling performances from groups representing 14 countries and regions including Hong Kong. The parade showcased a diverse lineup of talent ranging from captivating dances and mesmerising rope skipping to jaw-dropping feats of acrobatics. A popular K-pop girl band, Kep1er, and a Thai boyband, LYKN, raised excitement levels even further with their stellar performances, spreading festive blessings through the crowds.

The HKTB has compiled a rundown of New Year entertainment in The Ultimate Guide to Chinese New Year in Hong Kong – a one-stop webpage featuring an array of celebratory events across the city. Highlights include the sensational fireworks display, the thrilling Chinese New Year Raceday, and the prestigious Chinese New Year Cup football match on the second, third and fourth days of Chinese New Year respectively. Together with details of temple visits for blessings and other festive activities at popular attractions, the guide guarantees residents and visitors alike can fully immerse themselves in the city’s packed and absorbing calendar of festive events.

The HKTB is also teaming up with the Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival to spread the excitement of the parade even further afield this year. From 30 January to 13 February, several beautifully decorated floats will go on display in Lam Tsuen Wishing Square in Tai Po. Groups from Mainland and overseas who participated in the parade will present upgraded versions of their performances in the square on the second and third days of the Chinese New Year, while some will also perform at shopping malls around the city.
