Details:

Regarding the Hong Kong SAR Government’s appointment of Dr Peter Lam Kin-ngok to succeed Dr Pang Yiu-kai as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) with effect from 1 April 2025, HKTB expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Pang for his contribution to Hong Kong’s tourism industry and welcomes the appointment of Dr Lam as Chairman.

Dr Pang has served as HKTB Chairman since April 2019. Over the course of his leadership, Hong Kong saw various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. In such a critical era, Dr Pang has led HKTB to join forces with the Government, the Tourism Commission and the travel trade to roll out various promotional campaigns to maintain Hong Kong’s positive exposure around the world and encourage the local public to discover Hong Kong’s tourism appeal as the city’s own tourists through a series of campaigns and measures, which helped the travel trade and tourism-related sectors to keep their momentum and laid a solid foundation for a stable and orderly recovery of the industry. As Hong Kong reopened its tourism doors in early 2023, Dr Pang led HKTB to swiftly launch waves of global promotions to attract visitors to Hong Kong and drive the full-fledged development of tourism. Consequentially, Hong Kong received close to 45 million visitors in 2024, and has upheld its position as one of the most popular destinations for MICE, cruise and overall tourism, serving an important tourism gateway for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Dr Pang said, “It has been my honour and privilege to serve our community as Chairman of HKTB during these very challenging six years. I am very grateful to the Government, the travel trade, my fellow HKTB members and the team for the support they have given me throughout the years. I will continue to work closely with HKTB team to promote ‘Hong Kong Super March’ and fully support work of HKTB going forward. I wish HKTB and Dr Lam every success.”

HKTB also extends its warmest welcome to its incoming Chairman, Dr Peter Lam. Dr Lam had been a member of HKTB since 2007 and served as Chairman from 2013 to 2019. During his tenure, HKTB propagated a series of signature mega events, solidifying Hong Kong as the “Asia’s World City”. With his profound experience in the tourism and commercial sectors and extensive network, HKTB believes that Dr Lam will bring a wealth of insights and build upon its achievements exploring new source markets and visitor segments in tandem with the travel trade and various sectors, while developing more diversified tourism products to create business opportunities, inject impetus into the economy, and further strengthen Hong Kong’s international status as a world-class travel destination.

At the same time, HKTB welcomes the appointment of Mr Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung, Ms Nikki Ng Mien-hua and Ms Melissa Kaye Pang as new members and looks forward to driving the development of the tourism industry together with them. HKTB also expresses gratitude to outgoing member Dr Lam Ho-yi for her contribution to the work of the Board.
