Happy Dragon Boat Festival! A spectacular festive drone show organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) lit up the night sky above Victoria Harbour this evening (10 June). A fleet of 1,000 illuminated drones used the sky as their canvas and painted drums, dragon boat races, and other topical images, showcasing Hong Kong’s traditions to crowds of residents and visitors along the harbourfront.
The drone show began with an aerial display of glittering rice dumplings(zongzi) filling the sky, which then quickly transformed into a dragon boat drummer cheering competitors in the upcoming dragon boat races. The highlight of the show was a thrilling dragon boat race across the skyline which drew gasps of wonder from the crowd below. A rousing climax to the show saw a giant dragon flying on the oar of a dragon boat to send its blessings to the audience and remind them about the Hong Kong International Dragon Baot Races this weekend (15 and 16 June) on the Tsim Sha Tsui East promenade.

A weekend of exicting Dragon Boat celebrations is on the way. The Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races will be staged on the Tsim Sha Tsui East promenade on 15 and 16 June. More than 170 teams from 12 countries and regions will compete in 17 races with more teams and more participating countries and regions than last year. A new race – the PRC 75th Anniversary Cup – will be staged this year.
At 8 pm on 15 June, the HKTB will stage a pyrotechnic display on the Wan Chai harbourfront featuring images of smiley faces and an HK monogram to enrich the city’s festive ambience and visitors’ experience. The best place to view the display is the area on the right of the pet garden on the Wan Chai Temporary Promenade.
