HKTB to Launch a New Round of “Free Tours” with Extended Scope Covering the Hotel Sector

Post Date: 16 Feb 2021
Details:

In addition to the tourism industry, the dining and retail sectors have been dealt a heavy blow by the fourth wave of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Mr Dane Cheng, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), said, “As the first round of the ‘Free Tour’ programme was popular among the public, the HKTB will launch a new round of activities when the social-distancing measures gradually relax. In addition to tours, the HKTB is planning to include the hotel sector in the new round, which will follow the model of the first round of activities to encourage local spending and generate a chain of consumption.” The HKTB is currently discussing the programme with members of the related trades. Details will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, the HKTB will continue its various promotions in source markets to maintain Hong Kong’s international exposure to encourage visitors to return to Hong Kong soon after travel resumes.

The HKTB announced provisional visitor arrivals in January 2021 of 4,370, a 99.9% drop year on year.
