| Details: | The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced today (2 July) that Mr Anthony Lau has been appointed as the new Executive Director, with effect from 4 August 2025, as successor to Mr Dane Cheng.
Dr Peter Lam, HKTB Chairman, said, “On behalf of HKTB, I thank Mr Cheng for his dedicated service over the past six years. Under Mr Cheng’s leadership, HKTB has risen above the challenges of the global pandemic and driven the steady recovery of tourism, contributing greatly to the development of Hong Kong’s tourism industry.” Mr Cheng joined HKTB in 2019. During the pandemic, he led the Board in rolling out “Holiday at Home” and various initiatives to encourage the local public to “be our own tourists”. Following the pandemic, he spearheaded the restaging of a series of large-scale events and introduced the new global promotion “Hello Hong Kong” to drive the recovery of Hong Kong’s tourism.
Meanwhile, Dr Lam welcomed Mr Lau’s appointment to HKTB, “Mr Lau brings with him extensive experience in tourism and marketing, along with excellent leadership and governance capabilities, making him an ideal candidate for the role of Executive Director. I have confidence in Mr Lau that he will lead the HKTB team in close collaboration with the industry and various stakeholders to bring the tourism industry to new heights in the direction mapped out in the Development Blueprint for Hong Kong’s Tourism Industry 2.0, consolidate Hong Kong’s reputation as a world-class tourism destination with diverse experiences, and maximise the contribution of the tourism industry to Hong Kong.”
Mr Lau previously served as HKTB Executive Director between 2007 and 2019, spearheading HKTB’s innovative strategies and promotions and creating development opportunities in light of emerging tourism trends. He also continuously strengthened HKTB’s partnerships with stakeholders across different sectors. Mr Lau has been leading the Hong Kong Talent Engage, an office under the Labour and Welfare Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as Director since October 2023.
The appointment, which was endorsed by the Board, is made in accordance with Section 8(3) of the HKTB Ordinance, and was approved by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government. |
