Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), welcomed measures supporting the tourism industry outlined in the Policy Address announced by the Hong Kong SAR Government today.

Dr Lam said, “The Hong Kong Tourism Board sincerely thanks the Chief Executive for his strong support for the tourism industry. The Policy Address fully embraces the concept of ‘Tourism is Everywhere’. The measures will be beneficial in effectively exploring visitor sources, further strengthening Hong Kong as a Muslim-friendly tourism destination, developing yacht tourism, and deepening the city’s hospitality culture. This sets out a clear direction for the future growth of Hong Kong’s tourism industry. HKTB will fully support these initiatives to further enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong’s tourism industry and encourage visitors to extend their stay and return for future visits, thereby maximising the contribution of the tourism industry to the economy.”

The Policy Address aims to drive “Mega Events + Tourism” through various cultural festivities, tourism initiatives and mega events. HKTB will continue to organise various flagship events. For instance, HKTB will uplift the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival in October. We will also fully support the staging of international mega events in town, such as LIV Golf, one of the most important golf tours in the world. In addition, HKTB will continue to promote in-depth tourism experiences, yacht tourism and “Ecology + Tourism”. HKTB will also promote the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, and will collaborate with Ocean Park Hong Kong in rolling out more giantpanda themed events and products. We will also support Hong Kong Jockey Club’s promotion of horse-racing tourism, and promote the new red educational route under the theme of “Chinese Cultural Celebrity Rescue” history.

As the Policy Address emphasises establishing Hong Kong as the most sought-after destination for premium visitors, HKTB will work with the industry to offer sophisticated itinerary planning, concierge services and premium experience. HKTB will also continue to elevate the city’s Muslimfriendly tourism experiences by strengthening our strategy of “accreditation, education and promotion”, including a funding scheme to provide a half-rate certification fee subsidy, capped at $5,000, for restaurants that have acquired Halal certification. Further details will be announced soon.

Dr Lam emphasised that in addition to the “Tourism is Everywhere” principle, the hospitality spirit should be part of every aspect of Hong Kong tourism. HKTB is now implementing a New Outstanding Services Award Scheme to promote the hospitable culture through mass media, elevate the city’s overall service quality and enhance visitor experience. HKTB will work closely with the Government, tourism-related bodies and the trade to develop more tourism experiences and step up promotions to drive the high-quality and sustainable development of Hong Kong’s tourism industry.
