Nature: Museums / Galleries / Public Spaces
Organiser(s): Leisure and Cultural Services Department
Description: ‘Xu Bing in Hong Kong: Square Word Calligraphy’ marks the inaugural commissioning art initiative by artist Xu Bing in his role as Hong Kong’s Ambassador for Cultural Promotion. A highlight of this project is the exhibition ‘Eying East, Wondering West – Square Word Calligraphy Classroom’. Square Word Calligraphy is a unique form of writing that transforms English into a visual style resembling Chinese characters. In this exhibition, Xu Bing skillfully incorporates Hong Kong’s distinctive linguistic features, enriching the meaning and interpretation of Square Word Calligraphy.
