Insider's Hong Kong
Hong Kong Special Snacks
Everyone knows that Hong Kong loves to eat, and snacking is practically a citywide pastime!
Calista Chung, a Hong Kong native and our Senior Executive in the Los Angeles office, shares her list of top three snack shops to whet your appetite:
Near Hong Kong Island's Central district, this shop boasts both savory and sweet snacks made the old-fashioned way - by hand. Calista suggests trying the fried dough snack, "oyster bean" (soybeans in oyster sauce), and coconut candy. This shop is also the only place where you can find a special Chinese New Year fried snack during the festive season.Yiu Fung Store
With locations on both Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, Yi Fung Store is a family owned business celebrated for its sweets, dried fruit and its "super plums".Try their chan pei (traditional Chinese plum candy), fried dough snack and bengsha - a pastry is made of flour, lard, Guangdong-style preserved bean curd, and sugar.
Bee Cheng Hiang
Known for its famous pork jerky, prawn rolls and other savory bites, Bee Cheng Hiang has several outposts throughout the city, including Causeway Bay on the Hong Kong Island side and Mong Kok in Kowloon.
