Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the “Cathay International Chinese New Year Parade” was concluded in success tonight (10 February, first day of Chinese New Year). The parade stretched from the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. The dazzling floats and the festive global performances created a dynamic scene full of energy and vigour for the Year of the Dragon, kicking off the Chinese New Year holidays and welcoming the Year of the Dragon with the public and visitors in a joyous and hopeful spirit.
Back-to-back floats and performances dazzle the audience
The theme of tonight’s parade is “World Party.Great Celebration”. The procession comprised nine floats, with a combination of Chinese New Year elements such as dragons and lucky windmills, making them the most eye-catching part of the parade. Crowds of locals and visitors waited ahead of the parade time along Canton Road, which is part of the parade route to catch a close-up view of the floats and the various performing groups. Wherever the floats and performing teams passed, waves of laughter, applause and cheers followed. Performers also engaged with the public enthusiastically during the parade, impressing the public and visitors with their memorable acts.
Don’t miss the waves of Chinese New Year Celebrations
After the Parade, the floats will station at the Urban Council Centenary Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui from 11 to 25 February for public display. On the second and third days of Chinese New Year (11 and 12 February), a number of Mainland and international performing teams will also showcase their skills at the Garden, extending the joyous Chinese New Year ambience.
