Nearly all major international hotel chains are

represented, and local and regional hotel groups

provide strong competition. Offering tourists over

72,000 rooms in almost 250 hotels, Hong Kong has

become an acknowledged force in the world’s

hospitality industry.

There is no official star rating system in Hong Kong,

and no government control on room rates or other

prices. The law of supply and demand has ensured that

Hong Kong’s hotels maintain the highest of standards,

introduce new facilities and invest in renovation

programmes.

There are also guesthouses and hostels that cater to

the needs of economy-minded travellers. The Quality

Tourism Services (QTS) Scheme administered by the

Hong Kong Tourism Board makes it easy for visitors

to find budget accommodation that can be trusted. All

QTS-accredited visitor accommodation providers must

pass stringent assessments each year to ensure that

the highest possible service standards are maintained.
