Special Privileges for Visitors to Enjoy the Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Festival (27 September – 2 October 2012)

Riding on the success of last year’s Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Festival which attracted some 400,000 local residents and visitors, generating a HK$8million worldwide publicity, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will again launch the "Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Festival" campaign from 27 September to 2 October this year. Highlights of this mega event are:

Lee Kum Kee Lantern Wonderland
The biggest of all lanterns in town is the Giant Lantern which is going to be showcased at Victoria Park.  Created according to the winning design of the competition organised by the HKTB, the Giant Lantern with colourful LED light and sound effect is set to be the centerpiece of the celebrations.

Mid-Autumn Market
Newly added to the Mid Autumn Festival celebrations at Victoria Park, the “Mid-Autumn Market” offers Mid-Autumn festival goodies, handcrafts and festival-related workshops for visitors to get a taste of the Chinese culture.

Lantern Corridor
Another new element is the Lantern Corridor at Victoria Park, a walkway illuminated with strings of decorative lantern display.

Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance (29 September – 1 October)
Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance has been inscribed on the third national list of “Intangible Cultural Heritage” by the Ministry of Culture in China since 2011. This event goes on for three days with 300 performers and 72,000 incense sticks to form a 67-metre-long dragon studded with thousands of burning joss sticks. The “fire dragon” will wend its way through the back streets of Tai Hang. In the evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival on 30 September, the route for the Fire Dragon Dance will be extended to Victoria Park where visitors can have a close encounter of this spectacular performance.

Special Arrangement for Visitors
To facilitate visitors to join in the Festival, the following privileges are offered to trade partners for free from 27 September to 2 October:

  1. Moon cake redemption coupons: each coupon entitles a visitor to redeem a mini moon cake as a festive gift.  Redemptions can be done at the Moon Cake Redemption Counter located at the Mid-Autumn Market at Victoria Park.
