Location

Hong Kong is situated on the southeast coastline of

China, facing the South China Sea. To its north is the

Guangdong province whose capital, Guangzhou, is 135

kilometres (85 miles) from Hong Kong. China’s capital

city of Beijing is about 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles)

further north.

Geography

Hong Kong consists of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon

Peninsula, the New Territories and more than 260

outlying islands, totalling more than 1,100 square

kilometres (about 425 square miles).

Religion

The ancient religions of Buddhism, Taoism and

Confucianism have wide followings in Hong Kong.

Images of both Buddhist and Taoist deities are present

in most Chinese temples, of which there are more than

600. Other widely followed religions include Christianity,

Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Judaism.
