Daily Arrivals to Hong Kong
There has been a gradual recovery of arrivals to Hong Kong, ramping up to around two-thirds of the pre-pandemic level in October.
Recovery Pace of Different Markets
As of Q3, the Mainland arrivals’ recovery has reached 70% as benefited from their summer holidays.
Air capacity takes time to recover. As flight capacity gradually increases, there is a steady rise in arrivals from international markets, resulting in 52% recovery in Q3.
The Recovery Pace of Source Markets (vs 2017-2018 Average)
From the snapshot of the latest recovery in Oct 2023, SEA has achieved the highest recovery rate of 82%. This is followed by Long-haul markets with a recovery of 50% - 60%.
Percentage of Overnight Visitors & Length of Stay
Compared to the pre-pandemic pattern, there has been an increase proportion of overnight visitors (from 46% to 50%), who are still staying slightly longer.

Hotel occupancy stayed at around 80%. Hotel room rates peaked in the summertime and remained above 2018.
Total retail sales and restaurant receipts in Hong Kong recovered 85-90% of 2018 levels.

In general, MICE recovery is faster. For SEA, leisure travellers have almost returned to pre-pandemic level.
