‘M+ Sigg Collection: Another Story’ takes a visual approach to examine the styles and practices of contemporary Chinese art from the 1990s to the present. The exhibition surveys how artists reconsider their cultural identities and express their uncertain state of being during China’s rapid modernisation in the 1990s. It brings together a multitude of works that exhibit qualities of overflowing visuals, ambiguous meanings, obsessions with transiency, and traditional interpretation. It offers a different perspective on understanding contemporary Chinese art and foregrounds its unique visual language through the lens of artists who strive for self-presence.
The donation of 490 sets of Chinese snuff bottles from the Fuyun Xuan Collection stands as the most extensive and comprehensive of its kind ever received by a museum in Hong Kong. The "AniCom Sports Park" celebrates original animation and comics (AniCom) characters created in different periods and presents local comic artists with unique styles. It aims to promote Hong Kong's AniCom culture to local residents and tourists, and provide an additional tourist attraction in Hong Kong. M+ presents Lee Mingwei: Guernica in Sand, a large-scale installation and performance to be staged in The Studio. Taking Pablo Picasso’s iconic 1937 masterpiece Guernica, painted in response to the violence of the Spanish Civil War, as its departure point, Lee Mingwei recreates this painting in sand. Towards the end of the display, a live performance invites visitors to walk on the sand painting. Four performers will then gently sweep the sand in spontaneous movements that simultaneously destroy and recreate the image anew.

Food culture is a vital component of traditional Chinese heritage, boasting a rich and diverse history. ‘A Movable Feast: The Culture of Food and Drink in China’ takes the audience through a feast that traverses spiritual, cultural and physical spaces. It explores the culinary culture and lifestyle of ancient Chinese people through the evolution of food vessels, eating practices and traditions, presenting approximately 110 exquisite works. These objects, primarily on loan from The Palace Museum, span from the Neolithic period to the Qing dynasty. Additional works on display come from the British Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, as well as museums in Hong Kong.

Objects of Play: Hoo Mojong Centennial Retrospective takes place during a significant moment: the centenary of Hoo Mojong’s birth. A trailblazer in modern art, Hoo is a key figure in bridging Eastern and Western artistic languages. The annual Cheung Chau Bun Festival is held in May (The fifth to ninth of the fourth lunar month) this year. Tonnes of buns, papier-mâché effigies, lion dancers and tall tales of ancient evil spirits all converge on the island of Cheung Chau to create one of the world’s quirkiest local festivals.
Every year on Buddha’s birthday, which lands on the eighth of the fourth lunar month, the Po Lin Monastery hosts a major ceremonial service of Buddha bathing to commemorate the occasion. A basin of water with the baby Buddha statue is placed before the Hall of Great Hero.
The oldest and the most celebrated Tam Kung Temple, located in Shau Kei Wan, hosts one of the signature events of the Eastern District: the Tam Kung Festival, celebrated every year on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month. This year, the festival consists of diverse activities including a variety show, Cantonese opera, a parade with lion and dragon dances, and an international lion dance competition.
