The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is dedicated to showcasing Hong Kong’s stunning natural beauty through various channels globally, particularly emphasising its famous hiking trails. After supporting three major world-class trail running events held in town recently (TransLantau, Oxfam Trailwalker and Hong Kong 100 Ultra Marathon), which attracted a total of a few thousand visitors from various markets, HKTB recently partnered with Klook, airlines and other industry stakeholders in hosting the Hong Kong Outdoor Festival targeting the South Korean market again. The Festival attracted more than 140 South Korean visitors to immerse themselves in Hong Kong’s captivating mix of urban and natural landscapes, experiencing its breathtaking coastal trails and lush mountain paths through a series of adrenalin-fuelled running activities.

From Sea to Hill: Vibing in Hong Kong in a Harbourfront Night Run and Conquering the Dragon’s Back

The sports lovers could not have too much of the city’s energy! Moving themselves to the Central Harbourfront, the group continued to drink in the city’s electrifying nighttime energy as they run along the coast under the lead of former South Korean national track athlete Jang Ho-jun and marathon runner An Euntae, accompanied by the city’s brilliantly illuminated skyline.

Before the group bade us farewell, the participants experienced Hong Kong’s trail run along the Dragon’s Back mountain ridge trail, which is hailed by CNN Travel as one of the world’s best hiking trails. Runners were guided by professional coaches as they navigated the challenging, zigzagging route that soars above the city’s hustle and bustle to offer breathtaking coastline views and verdant mountain scenery.

Tapping into Growing Demand for Outdoor and Wellness Tourism

HKTB South Korea Director Mr Kim Yoon-ho, the mastermind behind this exciting Festival, cited the success of last year’s inaugural Hong Kong Outdoor Festival as evidence of the strong appeal of green tourism and outdoor sports-focused vacations for South Korean travellers. As the health-conscious MZ generations (the Millennials and the Gen Z) increasingly embrace active lifestyles, HKTB will continue to shape tourism through sports and promote the city as an outdoor destination by bringing together health and wellness and Hong Kong’s stunning natural beauty.

After the morning run, participants attend the opening ceremony where HKTB South Korea Director Mr Kim Yoon-ho gives a welcome speech.
