Western Festivals

It was Hong Kong’s first European residents who

brought the West’s favourite festivals to their new

home. These took root quickly and, 170 years later,

the city has become as enthusiastic as any other about

Christmas carols, Easter eggs, Halloween parties and

Valentine’s Day kisses.

Valentine’s Day

Hong Kong is a city of love and romance, evident in

its celebration of not one but three festivals for lovers

– the informal “Chinese Valentine’s days” (both the

Spring Lantern Festival and Seven Sisters Festival)

and its better-known Western parent, St. Valentine’s

Day. Expect festive fun for romantics city-wide, with

restaurant specials for couples, and wine and roses

aplenty.

Easter

Easter is one of the biggest festivals marked by Hong

Kong’s Christians. During the long Easter weekend,

many crowd in to attend special services at churches

around the city. Regardless of faith however, the entire

population looks forward to this special holiday.

Halloween

Costume parties and chilling decorations make for

scarily good fun in Hong Kong. The city’s unique

history as a place where East meets West means that

European festivals, including Halloween, are deeply

entrenched in its cultural fabric. From decorated

shopping malls and themed menus to raucous street

parties and elaborate theme park celebrations, Hong

Kong is the place to party on All Hallows’ Eve.

Christmas

There is no Christmas like a Hong Kong Christmas!

From a colourful harbourside carnival to theme park

celebrations, there will be plenty of festive fun. Shopping

malls in town get a makeover during the holiday season,

complete with Christmas villages, brightly decorated

Christmas trees, festive music and joyous carollers.

Enjoy the winter shopping sales and restaurants’ tasty

seasonal menus all over town.
