This jam-packed weekend event features a series of races, where top dragon boat racing teams from Hong Kong and around the world compete along the waterfront of Tsim Sha Tsui East in Victoria Harbour.
Qipao (also known as cheongsam ) is a fashion symbol of Chinese culture. The cheongsam -making technique has been inscribed onto the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China. The ‘Cinderella and Her Qipao’ exhibition showcases 31 qipaos from a selection of films that span across different eras, along with related film footage, recreating the cultural landscapes of the past with pieces worn by iconic actresses such as Li Lihua, Hsia Moon, Maggie Cheung and Brigitte Lin. Visitors will gain a deeper understanding of qipao in films through this exhibition.

The Hong Kong Museum of Art has received a generous donation of 123 sets of precious artworks from the family of calligraphist Jat See-yeu (1935–2009). The exhibition showcases 85 sets of these artworks, which invite audiences to explore Jat’s world of calligraphy and experience his bold and pioneering ideas. A virtual tour with an online map allows visitors to explore Jat's calligraphy rooted in communities in Cheung Chau and other places in Hong Kong. Whether in-person or online, visitors can get a sense of the deep bond between Jat, Cheung Chau and Hong Kong, as well as the rich Chinese cultural vitality.

Kung fu and martial arts films, as well as their associated industries, have always been integral to Hong Kong’s pop culture. This year holds special significance as it marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the legendary writer Jin Yong and the 20th anniversary of the passing of James Wong. To honour these influential figures, the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2024 has adopted the theme of ‘Arts & Action’, offering a journey through time to explore Hong Kong’s pop culture from new perspectives. The diverse programmes will feature thematic exhibitions, film screenings, stage performances and engaging outreach activities.
The exhibition uncovers the rich history of cross-harbour vessels and their cultural significance in four sections: ‘The Harbour, the City and the People’, ‘Crossing the Harbour’, ‘Freight Transport’ and ‘Changes in Harbour Voyages’. Through historical photographs and vessel models, the exhibition illustrates maritime trade activities from Hong Kong’s early years to the present. A life-size reconstruction of the old motorboat ticket booth and a multimedia game, ‘Travel by Walla-Walla’, will allow visitors to relive the glory days of the motorboat industry.
2024 marks the centenary of the birth of Jin Yong (Dr Louis Cha), a literary giant in Chinese literature. ‘A Path to Glory — Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial’ is a memorial event that encompasses culture, art, creativity, heritage and education, paying tribute to the master of martial arts fiction. The event consists of ‘The World of Wuxia’ exhibition at Edinburgh Place, Central, and the ‘Sculpted by Ren Zhe’ exhibition at Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

ARTS.TECH Exhibition 2.0 introduces interactive arts experiences by connecting the arts, technology and community in real and virtual spaces. Three exhibitions are staged in Sino LuminArt Façade at the harbourfront of Tsim Sha Tsui East, Tai Kwun in Central, and SHOWCASE in Landmark South, Wong Chuk Hang. The first exhibition, "Fill in the Blanks", invites audiences to discover the meaning in the "blanks" between the two huge digital LED walls ; "Make & Believe" expands the theatrical aesthetic into a gallery space; the final exhibition, "Beyond the Singularity", seeks to spark discussions on how AI is revolutionising the arts.
This is M+’s first exhibition on photography, co-presented with the French May Arts Festival and in collaboration with the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF). It examines black-and-white photography as a time-honoured medium of art by presenting more than 250 important photographs from BnF’s collection, complemented by over 30 photographs from the M+ Collections, featuring over 170 internationally acclaimed photographers.
CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) celebrates its fifth anniversary with the group exhibition entitled ‘Factory of Tomorrow’, featuring CHAT’s own contemporary art collection and newly commissioned works. The exhibition brings together creations by 19 artists and collectives of Asian backgrounds, reflecting their takes on the past and future textile industry through different forms of art. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr Louis Cha (Jin Yong), the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and Guyu Cultural Development Foundation have invited renowned sculptor Ren Zhe to bring 22 of Jin Yong’s characters to life at this exhibition. The sculptures are infused with visionary creativity, alongside captivating multimedia installations created by artist Victor Wong, to immerse visitors in Jin Yong’s imaginary world of martial arts.
Yuanming yuan (Garden of Perfect Brightness) served as the principal residence of five emperors during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). This exhibition sheds new light on the once-magnificent Qing dynasty imperial garden-palace with over 190 spectacular paintings, architectural models, and other relevant artefacts and artworks.

Co-commissioned by M+ and Art Basel, Yang Fudong’s new work Sparrow on the Sea is described by the artist as a site-specific ‘architectural film’. Shot in Hong Kong, the black-and-white film weaves together scenes from seaside villages and nocturnal city streets. By referencing visual motifs and textures from classic Hong Kong cinema of the 1970s to the 1990s, Yang aims to evoke a sense of nostalgic familiarity.

The International Tour of The Sound of Music is set to celebrate the 65th anniversary of this beloved classic family musical in Hong Kong! Asia’s largest ice hockey competition, the 2024 Mega Ice Hockey 5’s will feature over 80 teams from around the world. It includes a youth division on 21–27 April 2024 and an adult division from 29 April to 4 May 2024.

Gounod’s five-act opera, Roméo et Juliette, is one of the most successful adaptations of William Shakespeare’s tragedy. In 2016, Opera Hong Kong presented the premier of this masterpiece in Hong Kong to great critical acclaim. Now, in its highly anticipated return this year, French opera artists will join forces with international and local singers to bring audiences yet another extraordinary production.
