Shopping
Fashion
Most international design houses maintain exclusive
outlets in the city and noted Hong Kong designers have
shops here. But fashion doesn’t end with clothes in this
designer-label capital: watches, briefcases, spectacles,
furnishings and even umbrellas can be used to make a
statement.
Where:
Central district offers high-end shopping, while
Causeway Bay features numerous shopping malls and
department stores. In Tsim Sha Tsui, designer fashions
are available on Canton Road, while local fashions can
be found on Granville Road. Youth wear is available in
the Island Beverley, Laforet, Granville Circuit, Langham
Place and apm.
Jade, Jewellery & Precious Stones
Hong Kong is a terrific place to buy quality jewellery at
reasonable prices, thanks to the city’s free-port status.
Gold, diamonds and pearls are excellent value, as are
jade and other gemstones.
Where:
Parts of Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and
Mong Kok are lined with jewellery shops, as are
stretches of Des Voeux Road Central, Queen’s Road
Central and Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay. The Jade
Market in Yau Ma Tei (see Markets & Shopping Streets,
page
D-03 )offers a wide selection of jade.
Silk & Carpets
Your guests will find luxurious fabrics in almost every
imaginable colour in Hong Kong. Hand-loomed carpets
imported from Mainland China, Iran, Turkey and
Afghanistan are sold in a variety of styles, designs and
weaves.
Where:
Silks can be found in Western Market and
Chinese department stores. Wyndham Street and
Hollywood Road teem with shops selling rugs and
carpets from Asia and the Middle East.
Organised by the Hong Kong
Tourism Board (HKTB), the
Quality Tourism Services (QTS)
Scheme aims to help tourists
find shops, restaurants and
visitor accommodation that they
can trust. Under the scheme,
QTS-accredited establishments
must pass stringent annual
assessments showing that they
meet high standards of product quality and service.
HKTB also provides assistance for enquiries about
purchases from shops accredited by the QTS Scheme.
