Dining
Local Flavours
No trip to Hong Kong would be complete without tasting
the local snacks, which include everything from noodles
and congees to tea, pastries and desserts, as well
as a delicious coffee-tea combo called yuen yeung,
hot sweet buns stuffed with melted butter known as
“pineapple buns”, and a tasty baked egg custard daan.
Tea Culture (Yum Cha and Dim Sum)
Yum cha means “drink tea” and is used to describe a
meal of dim sum washed down with Chinese tea. An
important part of Hong Kong’s culinary culture, this
meal is served for breakfast or lunch in teahouses and
restaurants throughout Hong Kong. Dim sum includes a
variety of dumplings, buns and pastries containing meat
and vegetables.
English Afternoon Tea
Several upmarket hotels and coffee shops serve
English afternoon tea. Visitors can step back in time to
the days of the British Empire while nibbling on scones,
sipping tea from bone-china cups and listening to the
dulcet tones of a piano or hotel string quartet.
