Po Lin Monastery’s Buddha Bathing Ceremony

Nature: Chinese Festivals, Festivals
Organiser(s): Po Lin Monastery
Description: Every year on Buddha’s birthday, which lands on the eighth of the fourth lunar month, the Po Lin Monastery hosts a major ceremonial service of Buddha bathing to commemorate the occasion. A basin of water with the baby Buddha statue is placed before the Hall of Great Hero. Visitors can participate in the Buddha bathing ritual, washing the statue with scented water to cleanse all delusions and karma defilements, thereby attaining the clean, original, innate Buddha nature.
