No vaccination certificates are required for visitors

travelling to Hong Kong. However, visitors in transit

through Hong Kong should check health regulations for

subsequent destinations to ensure that all necessary

valid certificates have been obtained.

Medical Services

Many hotels have an in-house nurse. Qualified doctors

are on duty at specified hours and on call 24 hours for

emergency treatment. There are also many government

and private hospitals with 24-hour emergency and out-

patient departments. For a list of hospitals under the

Hospital Authority, please visit its website at

www.ha.org.hk

.

Water

The fresh water supplied by the government fully

conforms to the quality recommended by the World

Health Organization. However, most people prefer to

drink bottled water, which is widely available throughout

the city.

Hygiene

Hong Kong employs strict hygiene laws, with HK$1,500

fines for littering and spitting, and eating and drinking

are prohibited on most public transport. High standards

for hygiene facilities are maintained to protect public

health. Public washrooms and hand sanitisers can be

found in all attractions, shopping malls, etc. Please visit

the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department’s

website at

www.fehd.gov.hk

for more information.

Smoking is prohibited in all indoor public places,

including restaurants, karaokes, malls and bars, as

well as on public transport carriers, public transport

facilities, and in both indoor and outdoor areas of some

premises such as public beaches and swimming pools,

escalators and the Hong Kong Wetland Park. No person

shall smoke or carry a lighted cigarette, cigar or pipe in

designated no-smoking areas, or else they will be liable
