The award-winning Hong Kong International Airport on

Lantau Island commenced operations in July 1998. It is

connected to about 190 destinations all over the world

through about 1,100 daily flights serviced by more than

100 airlines. Besides airline service, there is also a

cross-boundary helicopter shuttle service between Hong

Kong and Macau.

Departure Tax & Surcharges

Travellers aged 12 and above departing Hong Kong from

the airport or by helicopter at the Hong Kong – Macau

Ferry Terminal are subject to a HK$120 air passenger

departure tax, which is waived for passengers who arrive

and depart on the same day. For passengers departing

from Hong Kong International Airport, there is also a

HK$45 airport security surcharge, and from 1 August

2016 onwards, an Airport Construction Fee ranging from

HK$70 to HK$180 (usually included in the ticket price).

Passengers arriving at the airport by ferry for direct

onward air passage may obtain a refund of any prepaid

including Airport Express trains, taxis, buses, hotel
